- Verify move out and move in dates along with requirements for each location
- Notify friends, family and employer of new address, visit and going away party
- Return borrowed items
- Repair damages/complete projects
- Service vehicle if long distance move
- Obtain estimates for movers or rental truck
- Check mover service providers reviews and better business bureau rating
- Schedule movers or rental truck
- Purchase moving supplies such as boxes, packaging tape, labels, packaging material, box cutter, etc..
- Determine furniture layout for new location

- Check batteries and for smoke detectors thermostats, etc.
- Check filters for A/C and schedule appliance maintenance
- Make a meal plan for last and first week
- Arrange school transfer
- Arrange job transfer
- Locate new medical providers
- Arrange utility service transfers and provide sufficient notice for gas, electric, garbage, water, internet, phone, etc.
- File a change of address with post office, DMV and other service providers such as creditors, landscapers, renters or home owners insurance, etc.
- Clean out closets, drawers and storage
- Garage sale/donate unwanted items
- Use up perishable foods
- Drain and expose of fluids
- Arrange for house cleaning of old/new residence
- Arrange for move of pets, plants, antiques, large items, etc.
- Pack personal items for at least 1 week in luggage along with critical documents, important contacts and prescriptions you may need
- Begin packing
